Where is Newmarket in England?

Newmarket is in the west of Suffolk in the East of England, close to Cambridge. It is in the Brecks National Character Area.

How do I get to Newmarket?

Newmarket is on the St Edmund’s Line between Ipswich and Cambridge, both of which have regular fast trains to London. Cambridge has connections to the Midlands.

Newmarket is on the A14 from the Midlands and connects with the M11 from London via the A11.

Why do people visit Newmarket?

People visit Newmarket for horseracing on the flat.

Newmarket has two racecourses, the Rowley Mile and the July Course.

Rowley Mile is used May and June and September and October. The July Course is used June-August.

What is Newmarket famous for?

Newmarket is famous as the World HQ of Flat Horse Racing. Charles II had a Royal Palace here and popularised the sport.

Royal Palace can be visited today and has an excellent art collection. Across the road is the National Horse Racing Museum.
